1.35 understand the relationship between ionic charge and the melting point and boiling point of an ionic compound

The bigger the difference in charge, the stronger the attraction: if you have + and - ions they will have a weaker bond than +3 and -3 ions. The stronger the attraction, the harder it is to break the bonds, this means that the melting and boiling points will be higher. So the bigger the charge of an ion, the higher the melting and boiling point.

  8. I'm kinda confused. I thought that having a greater charge and stronger electrostatic attraction was something that would increase the intramolecular forces but not have an effect on the intermolecular forces (i.e. make it more difficult for an ionic compound to react, but wouldn't have an effect on it's boiling point/freezing point because it doesn't affect the forces between the molecules.) I'm probably wrong but I'd like clarification

    1. The strength of charge definitely has an effect on the melting/boiling/freezing point of a molecule. I think the confusion might be in your definition of inter and intra molecular: intramolecular is within the ionic compound, so what the ions are doing to each other. Intermolecular would how this ionic compound related to another one.
      I can't really remember how to do chemistry any more hahaha, but I hope that cleared things up at least a little.
