Compounds in the same homologous series have the same general formula and similar chemical properties.
A hydrocarbon is a compound made up only of hydrogen and carbon.
Saturated means something has bonded as many time as possible. Unsaturated means that more bonds can be made.
General formula is the most simplified the ratio of molecules can be.
Isomers have the same general formula but different structures.
"A hydrocarbon is a compound". Technically, a single hydrocarbon (as you are talking about here) is a MOLECULE.
ReplyDeleteHydrocarbons (note; it is plural) are COMPOUNDS made up of hydrogen and carbon only.

Deletesucha whore tabby , thanking everyone
DeleteYusuf, I've ready through these all for two years and I still can't get over how much of an arsehole you can be, not only disrespecting Hannah here for helping out but also everyone who thanks her. Grow up.
Delete"General formula is the most simplified the ratio of molecules can be." What you have described is an empirical formula. A general formula is a formula from which you can deduce the molecular formula of a molecule.
ReplyDeleteFor example, the general formula for an Alkane is CnH2n+2. From this we can get the molecular formula of any molecule of alkane, such as propane. Propane has 3 carbon atoms, so there are (2 x 3) + 2 = 8 hydrogens. So the molecular formula for propane is C3H8.

DeleteIsomers are molecules with the same molecular formula but with different structural formulae
ReplyDeleteyour blog is perfect. cannot thank you enough. THANK YOU x100000000000000
ReplyDeleteSaturated is this sense means there is the most amount of hydrogen bonded to the carbon atoms, an organic chemical that is un-saturated has a double bond so is an alkane meaning if an addition reaction occurs more hydrogen could be added
ReplyDeleteDoesn't saturated mean single bonds only, and unsaturated is double/triple bonds?
ReplyDeleteYES
