3.12 describe the dehydration of ethanol to ethene, using aluminium oxide.

C2H5OH > C2H4 + H2O

ethanol > ethene + water

aluminium oxide is the catalyst for this reaction.

  3. Is this a reversible reaction? also, can phosphoric acid be used as a catalyst?

  4. Phosphoric acid is used in the hydration of ethene to form ethenol. For the dehydration of ethenol aluminium Oxide is used.
