5.5 explain the uses of aluminium and iron, in terms of their properties

Aluminium is 'low density' and does not corrode so is used for the bodies of planes.

Iron is used in electromagnets as it is a soft magnetic material.

  1. I've seen on some mark schemes they only accept lightweight and not light for aluminium which is strange but just thought I would let you know!

  2. They only accept 'low density' not light even though they are the same thing

  3. Low density and light are very different low density means if has a low mass per volume whereas light means it has a low mass if I took 5 grand of the densest matter in the world it is light but it wouldn't have a very small density it would still be very dense
